They are not only doomed because of the current crunch, they are doomed
because nobody wants their fuel inefficient vehicles. Where is the
innovation, where are the hybrid cars, etc. The Japanese car makers
already solved this 10 years ago, so the customers buy foreign.

Since the Democrats depend on the union members'voting power, it's
just a
matter of time before funds are approved. So the Big 3 are most
likely to
survive intact.
But GM, being a huge industrial group with at least 13 divisions in
the form
of subsidiaries, each of which itself is a very large corporation,
rationalization by a competent enough management should be feasible.
Surely there must be enough management accountants and marketing
MBAs who should be able to determine as a dedicated team what needs to
be down-sized, what can be hived off and what should be given up.
The strange thing is not the cunning group of top management seizing
the very moment when the entire economy is in crises to approach the
Hill
plus the guy they just voted in who will be obliged to pay the pound
or two
of flesh, but the 2 senators and 15 congressmen representing Michigan
who had all the time to prepare Congress with properly hatched plans
but
did not!
